Reinaldo Diaz SPC1017 Reflection Blog

This group was actually  a very fun  and productive experience, one that challenged many of my previously held opinions about group work.  I walked into this project filled with an enormous amount of apprehension. To say that I was nervous at first would be an understatement; while in high school, I always preferred to do all of  the work myself in a group project. This preference was not due to any selfish desire to control everything but instead to years of group project experiences which consistently saw me doing the work for group members who were slackers or having to accommodate their utterly horrible, barely up to par contributions to the project. Because of this, I began to associate the word group project with stress, inequality,  and ultimately, lower  grades-grades that, no matter how hard I worked, were brought down by the performance of other students. Because of this perspective, I was very skeptical when I accidentally fell into this gro...

Daphne Araya Blog: Reflection on Communication and Teamwork

Communication is something people use every day without always realizing how important it actually is. Before this project, I mostly thought communication was just about speaking to other people, but after working on the presentation and learning more about the topic, I realized communication affects almost every part of daily life. Communication can affect teamwork, leadership, relationships, problem solving, and even the way people understand one another in different environments. Overall, this project helped me better understand how important communication is in both personal and professional situations. One topic I found most interesting was communication within groups and teamwork. Working in groups can either go very smoothly or become stressful, depending on how people communicate with one another. Everyone communicates differently, which can sometimes make teamwork difficult, especially when people have different opinions or ways of handling situations. At the same time, strong...

Ashly Osorto's Blog Reflection on Class Presentations

The group presentation project was one of the most interesting assignments I had to completed in this course because it gave me the opportunity to learn from one another while also improving my communication and public speaking skills. Throughout the presentations, each group covered a different chapter from our textbook. Group 1 presented Chapter 3 on Intercultural Communication, my group presented Chapter 9 on Communicating in Groups, and Group 3 presented Chapter 10 on Group Leadership and Problem Solving. Although each chapter focused on a different topic, I noticed that they all connected to one another because they showed how communication affects the way people interact, work together, solve problems, and build relationships. One thing that stood out to me throughout all of the presentations was that some of us were a little bit  nervous at the beginning. Public speaking is something that many people struggle with, and standing in front of a classroom can be intimidating. I ...

Jeremiah Munoz Reflection Blog: How Communication Shapes Every Group

How Communication Shapes Every Group Before working on this assignment, I never really thought deeply about how communication affects every group we are part of in everyday life. While completing Chapter 9 and preparing my group presentation, I realized that communication is what keeps groups connected, organized, and supportive. Whether it is within families, friendships, or support systems, communication influences how people interact with each other and how relationships are built over time. For our presentation, my section focused on the nature and types of groups, including families, social groups, and support groups. At first, I thought the chapter would mostly be about basic definitions and group examples, but I quickly realized there was much more depth to the topic. One of the most interesting things I learned was how communication patterns within families can shape the way people behave and communicate later in life. The textbook explained that families are often ...

What I Took Away From Presentation Day - Destinee Jonassaint

Destinee Jonassaint SPC1017 PROF. Sinkoff Hello, my name is Destinee Jonassaint and I am here to reflect on the past project my class had done.  I'm not going to lie, when I first found out we had to present in front of the class I was kind of nervous. Not just about my own group but the whole day in general. I didn't really know what to expect from everyone. But looking back on it now I'm really glad it happened because it ended up being one of those class days where you actually feel like you got something out of it.  All three groups covered topics around communication and I think what made it so interesting is that communication is something we do every single day without really thinking about it. Sitting through these presentations made me realize how much I didn't know about something I do all the time. Group One: Intercultural Communication The first group talked about culture and communication and honestly they surprised me. I went in thinking I already kind of ...

For our team presentation, we touched on many important topics centered around communication and leadership skills. As in any family, our dynamic is not always perfect, but we are supportive, respectful, and considerate of each other. My two older siblings live in different cities due to school and work, but when all five of us are togeth...
